Traditionally\, temari were given as gifts symbolizing deep friendship and loyalty and evolved from a fairly basic form into exquisite works of art. \nHistorically\, temari were constructed from the remnants of old kimonos. As time passed\, traditional temari became an art\, with the functional stitching becoming more decorative and detailed\, until the balls displayed intricate embroidery. \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners and will introduce you to the art of the temari\, using basic herringbone stitch to create a traditional design. Your tutor will guide you through the making process. Using an array of colourful threads and a carefully designed pattern\, you will create your very own termai ball. \nThe workshop will run from 10.00am until 4.00pm. All the materials and tools will be supplied\, including a workshop apron for you to wear during your day. DESCRIPTION:Come and experience ‘Romancing the Gibbet’\, a collaboration between poet Ralph Hoyte and historian Steve Poole (University of the West of England). Through the medium of your smartphone you can follow on the ground Ralph Hoyte’s ‘dark tourism’ poetic response to ‘The Morrismen Murder’ of 1772 which took place near here and the subsequent extraordinary public execution. \nSteve Poole  will introduce you to the background of the murder case\, trial and subsequent hanging. William Keeley was found guilty of murdering the gardener Joseph Dyer after spotting him flashing his money at the old Fish Inn on Broadway Hill. The Oxford Journal at the time commented: “It seems that Keeley is a famous Morrice dancer\, and on Sunday morning before the fact was committed\, he was teaching a set of fellows to dance. Warner used to play on the tabor and pipe to the dancers. It is to be hoped the Justices will suppress such nurseries of idleness and drunkenness as morrice-dancings have generally proved!” \nRalph Hoyte will then perform extracts from his poetic responses\, and we will both introduce the project’s audio trail as set in and around Broadway Tower and the Cotswold Way and explain how it was made. You will be shown how to make a wire armature\, form the structure\, apply the wool\, add features and ears! \nAlthough it has its roots in a centuries old form of cloth making\, needle-felting is a relatively new art\, an off-shoot of industrial felt-making from the nineteenth century.  Woolen fibres are bonded together using specially designed barbed needles to form a firm material which can be made into 3-D shapes. \nMichelle began felting around seven years ago\, and is now selling her creations world-wide\, and running courses near her home in Gloucestershire and elsewhere in the country. \n£55 per person to include materials\, light lunch\, tea or coffee and cake \nBook Now
